Theory discussion based on the Lewis Model

Here is the figure of the Lewis Model.According to its definition: Linear-Actives are task-oriented, highly-organized planners, who complete action chains by doing one thing at ta time, preferably in accordance with a linear agenda.Multi-Actives are emotional, loquacious and impulsive people who attach great importance to family, feelings, relationships, people in general. They like to do many things at the same time and are poor followers of agendas. Reactives are good listeners, who rarely initiate action or discussion, preferring first to listen to and establish the other’s position, then react to it and form their own opinion.

Thus, based on the figure it can be concluded that , Finnish people prefer to follow the agenda and they are less emotional, they are also good listener to some extent. As for Chinese, they are good listeners who rarely initiate action or discussion.

Personally I agree with the information on Finnish and Chinese according to the Lewis Model. I remember that when I was doing a project with several Finish guys, we always kept silent during discussion and normally there was no response when teacher asked questions . They do follow the plans( I have to admit that being a highly-organized planners is also what teacher want us to be, which provides learning efficiency). when it comes to Chinese, I totally agree with the comment from the Levis Model. In china, most of the young was raised by the generation who highly follows collectivism. We obey the hierarchy both of family and society and we listen to the leader. Consequently, we get used of listening first instead of stating own ideas. We just need to follower the people who leads you(usually the leaders refer to the elder in family, teacher in school, and boss in working). However, what I want to add is that Chinese not only good listeners but also good executors that provides high work efficiency.

After the general views for Finnish and Chinese, here is my personal advise for the students who are from Vietnam, Japan or China: Do not stay only listening any more, because the silence from you would be misunderstood as you are not participating or disrespectful. Do not be afraid of being a leader this time. However, you must think for the sake of long term. it is common that the misunderstanding caused by cultural difference would happen a lot, so be patient to explain you intention and communicate with others.
